The best way is to head over to w3schools and read.
Then find website that you like and like how they work, view the source and read/learn/imitate. Just keep at it, try new things and just look at websites for ideas and give it a go. It will take a while but you will get it

Yes, w3schools.com are really good. I especially found their CSS tutorial quite helpful. Their HTML and CSS validators (links in my signature) are also good check-points to make sure your code is valid. (you'll learn more about that point as you learn HTML). It's a good idea to check out their XHTML tutorial as well.

When you're a bit more advanced, they've got tutorials in Javascript and php etc. Try those as well.

Another thing I found really helpful when learning this stuff is to check out the source code of heaps of websites, to see how they do things. But always check it against W3C, to make sure it's all valid code.

Just like others have mimicked w3schools is an excellent resource. However a simple google search will yield results to just about anything you need! As you get started post questions in the forums for help!

And be sure to use Notepad++ as your text editor.
They have the nice feature of color-coding your HTML (and PHP for that matter).
    Makes troubleshooting easy.

I agree go over to w3schools. Ultimately the best way is to practice. Find some simple sites and copy and paste their source code into a text editor and practice making changes to it.

I would also suggest you read into HTML5 because by the time you finish learning HTML4 or whatever, it will no longer be the standard...Better to be ahead of the game.

Notepad++ makes me happy too :-D. But if you are both an Adobe fan and stingy. You can always install the CS4 trial and then re-install your OS at the end of the month and repeat. :aimangel:

I'm going to try Notepad++ out. But I usually use the file manager that comes with the hosting. I code by hand, from nothing, from my imagination to the internet.
