    I just started a site I am trying to redirect. I get the 500 internal server error. Here is my code. Can you please let me know what is wrong? My redirects may be in the wrong spot.

    <p>redirect 301 / http://www.waikoloavacationrentals.com/kolea-rentals/</p>
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
    <title>Untitled Document</title>
    </head>

    <body>

    allow from all<br />

    &lt;Limit PUT DELETE&gt;<br />

    AuthGroupFile /var/chroot/home/content/w/a/i/waikoloavrm/html/_vti_pvt/service.grp</p>
    <p>RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} .<br />

    Just to the moderator---pretty cool that the forum now pulls a description for urls.
    Anyway, where they redirect to is supposed to be the url in the code.

    Redirects actually go in a .htaccess file.

    Here is a good resource for you:

    It was intertwined in your code and wrapped in a <p> tag so it confused me.

    Typically for a redirect you would have something like this in your .htaccess file.

    redirect 301 /old-page.html http://www.yoursite.com/new-page.html

    That is there

    redirect 301 / Kolea Vacation Rental Selection ~ Beachfront rentals at Waikoloa Beach Resort
    redirect 301 /steveBarbaria.htm Kolea Vacation Rental Selection ~ Beachfront rentals at Waikoloa Beach Resort

    As I mentioned previously WDF changes my url to give it a description.

    What else do you have in your .htaccess file besides the redirects?

    I got it working now.
    The only problem is I am forwarding all the pages from www.kolea.com with /news after the url to www.waikoloavacationrentals.com/kolea-rentals
    When I have the code
    redirect 301 /news Kolea Vacation Rental Selection ~ Beachfront rentals at Waikoloa Beach Resort it redirects to /kolea-rentals/news
    How do I prevent that?

    Copy and paste your code here so we can see. Wrap your code with [ code ][ /code ] so it doesn't change your URLs. Make sure to not to have spaces between the []s
