    Hi there,

    I'm used to using Dreamweaver to design sites but am coming out of doing it now.
    I've just started in Textedit on the Mac and am writing a new page...

    Very basically I have written

    <html>

    <head>
    <title>BREAK COMMUNICATIONS</title>
    </head>

    <body>
    <this is break Communications>
    </body>
    </html>

    And saved the document as .html however when I open this up in Safari it simply displays the text as written above.

    I am obviously doing something very simple wrong and it would be great if someone could point me in the right direction...

    It could be because the content inside the <body></body> tags are surrounded by < >. Text content needs to be surrounded by a <p></p> tag, called a paragraph tag. Every paragraph of content gets a new <p></p> tag. Aside from that, I'm not sure why it would display all of the code in the browser. The code is supposed to be hidden from view (only available in the 'view source' notepad).

    What DOCTYPE are you using?

    always check the encoding that you are saving your file in! And the others are right too, surround your text with paragraph tags.

    Example
    <p>this is paragraph text</p>

    i have been in the computer field for 15 years. could you show me a working example of this causing the issue described in this thread?

    while($get_it !== true){ continue; }

    Happens sometimes with PHP which is very finicky with character encoding. The reason what I posted to check his encoding was because I misread what he said.

    the format I was viewing the textedit document in
    So my fault, not necessary at all in this case.

    Also for a text editor I would get a copy of Text Wrangler, it's free and really good for mac
