I've heard that target="_blank" has been depreciated and thus won't validate. I'm wondering what's the current best alternative? Perhaps something other than a pop-up incase a user has pop-ups blocked on their browser.

    Thanks,

There really isn't one. You could do something like this:
    Code:
    <a href="some link" onclick="window.open(this);return false">The link</a>
But that requires Javascript and will get killed by hyperaggressive popup blockers anyway (Yahoo! Toolbar's popup blocker comes immediately to mind).

Basically, anything that will open a new window can be considered a popup and therefore will be subject to popup blocking. it sucks, but unfortunately what sucks about it is that there's a perfectly valid reason for this type of paranoia.

is there a way to set it up like and 'if_else' statement? say, if a link's clicked a pop-up to that link is opened but if that pop-up is blocked then just revert to treating it like a normal link?

That I don't know. I've never attempted it before.

It would have to be done in Javascript, but even then I'm not sure.
