That's not our only problem in IE - here's a screenshot of what I got...

IE isn't your problem...7 or 8, that is. It's just a scapegoat. It appears to be the problem, but it really isn't.

Your problem is in your CSS in this case, and in particular excessive use of relative/absolute positioning. You don't need it for anything that you're doing at all with that layout. Use floats and clear them. The only good reason to use relative/absolute positioning is if you absolutely must position something inside of a relatively positioned container (e.g. a menu). That makes sense. The only place you're using absolute positioning is for your simple gallery, and you don't have to (not only that, the boundaries of your gallery box fall outside of the boundaries of its #mainbox container.)

This is also why you see the weird effect that Mare pointed out and why you're seeing the footer effect...you're absolutely positioning the grey box when you shouldn't be. When you absolutely position something, you take it out of the document flow, which means that it obeys its own boundaries and couldn't care less about the boundaries of the document flow.

So..to summarize this nice and prettylike...study up on floats, learn how they're used, and then rethink your layout without absolute positioning. Yes, it's a bitch job, but it's also the only way you're going to solve this.

One other thing...I know it's easy and logical to some extent to think IE is the problem when it does something different. I know that's especially true when all other browsers "think" the same way, or at least similarly. And it appears you're a Linux user (I'm not judging, just commenting). But if you can code something in a different manner to make appearances uniform, it means that no browser is really at fault and that the ultimate responsibility lies with you, the webmaster.

There are flaws with IE, yes. But there are flaws with every other browser out there. No browser is perfect, and no browser interprets everything correctly. That basically puts them all on the same playing field. In other words, find the flaw in your code first, and then find flaws in the browsers.
