My code for accomplishing the topic is to set the left/right margin of the element to a large negative number (ex. -3000) and setting the elements left/right padding to the positive value (ex. 3000), then setting 'overflow-x: hidden' on the body element.

This works great in all browsers but IE 5.5 and 6 (and maybe 7, haven't tested it yet), so I am wondering what would be the best work around to getting it to work... or at this point do you just forget about it for those two versions? Ideally I would like to get it to work.

In the specific element, right? Didn't seem to work, and broke in IE5.5.

Chances are you don't even have a reason to support IE6, and if you don't...IE 5.5 isn't an issue, so the problem solves itself.
