    im building a blog and it all works fine (using word press and my own theme) however on the blog page when comments come in the text goes out of the div and over my footer

    What should i add to the containing div to keep the text within the box, so that the box simply expands and moves everything down.

    cheers

    Sounds like you have an uncleared float...

    Glad you fixed it. Its a good idea to always clear your floats.

    what you mean always clear them?

    I actually solved this problem by setting the surrounding DIV height to auto... however when i placed another div to the right using float left.. they just sat underneith each over... I solved it by placing clear both to the css on the div beneith, which was the footer...

    new problem now lol... see my new post fun and games

    It's easier to just create a div ( I call mine clearit ), set the value to "clear:both" ,then anytime you use div that has a float , just remember to insert a <div Id="clearit"><\div> ... Since its a stand alone div, its not going to affect any others... Or anything that may have a dependency on the div.

    Pseudo-elements!!!!!
    Code:
    .parentOfFloatedElements::after{
      clear:both;
      content:"";
      display:block;
      height:0;
      width:0;
      visibility:hidden;
    }
