There is a gap at the top of my page above the menu and I can't figure out why... I'm pretty sure it's my CSS.

I can't figure out if there is a gap or it's just whitespace - did you fix it?

If you didn't, take a screen capture of your page and highlight the area you're talking about so we can see it. When the background is white, it's hard to tell what is and isn't white space.

The only thing I can come up with is that there's a top: auto; set as part of your computed styles. This may be your issue, and it may be related to your rotating backgrounds. Take any code related to them out and see if that's what does the trick.

There's a user-agent margin set on the <ul> within the <nav> element. Set margin:0 on that <ul>, and it'll go away.

The browser (or user agent) sets default styles for everything. Often, block-level elements will have margins or padding added to them.

Nice. I am also having problems with my footer not resizing for mobile devices... The copyright will drop a line and overlap the footer menu... any suggestions on what I could change?

Not sure what you mean by this...

Design is a funny word. Some people think design means how it looks.
