    Hi guys,

I am an aspiring Web Developer. I have recently learned HTML and CSS a couple of months ago. I am in the process of building my own professional website and have ran into a bit of a problem. When I attempt to move the Image on my website down, all of my text moves down on the page also. Here is the coding for the markup and also the styling.

Would anyone be willing to help me out? It would be very much appreciated. Most of you guys run circles around me when it comes to web developing.

    Thank you!

I'll help you with your question, but it's not going to solve your deeper problem.

First of all, what you seem to be trying to do is float your image to the left (known in CSS as a "left float"). So...to make your image float to the left and bring it down:

img {float: left; margin-top: 500000000px;} /* the excessive margin is to demonstrate the image moving down without the text following it. */

Make sure to clear your float after you create it. Remember The Immutable Law of Floats: When you float, you must clear. I'll leave that one as homework.

Now, here's your deeper problem: you're selling yourself as a web developer, you're asking a 101-level question, and making a huge 101-level posssibly Dr*amw*av*r-inspired mistake (i.e. you're referencing paths to your C:\ drive for the location of your files, which won't work when you upload your site somewhere). I'm not criticizing you for being a beginner...we all were once. You always start out in life knowing nothing. I'm criticizing the fact that you're selling yourself as a web developer while knowing nothing. Would you want someone operating on your brain that hadn't even read Brain Surgery for Dummies? No. So why would you expect someone to hire you as a developer when you haven't got even the basics down?

Before you get mad at me for saying what I just did, keep in mind that if I didn't, someone else would have, and probably in a much more condescending and nastier way than I did.
If I've helped you out in any way, please pay it forward. My wife and I are walking for Autism Speaks. Please donate, and thanks.

If someone helped you out, be sure to "Like" their post and/or help them in kind. The "Like" link is on the bottom right of each post, beside the "Share" link.
