    Responsive Web Design Question - Percentage Values ?

    OK, I am learning Responsive HTML now.

    I was following the tutorial here.
    Responsive Design with CSS3 Media Queries

    There it has this piece of code:

    Code:
    @media screen and (max-width: 980px) {

    	#pagewrap {
    		width: 95%;
    	}

    	#content {
    		width: 60%;
    		padding: 3% 4%;
    	}

    	#sidebar {
    		width: 30%;
    	}
    	#sidebar .widget {
    		padding: 8% 7%;
    		margin-bottom: 10px;
    	}

    }
    Now my question is, what mathematical calculations is he doing to get those Percentage Values ?

    Why Pagewrap width 95% and why not any other value?

    Thank you

    Those are based on the styling he wants for the page. They're examples. It has nothing to do with the media queries.

    What Ron said. He just picked values that looked / felt right to him for his specific example. They're arbitrary. The examples that look / work for you will depend on the site that you're working on.

    Is that my tutorial? o.O Looking back, I think I did a horrible job of explaining everything (partially because the thread has a limit to how much I can put on it)

    Design is a funny word. Some people think design means how it looks.
    But of course, if you dig deeper, itís really how it works.

    Jason, this is your one and only warning about fake signatures. If you do that again, you'll be banned.

    We're also not big on people who lie about their location and who claim they're freelancers in a location when they're not even geographically close to it.

    Tell us where you're really from first, JMarton1, and we'll help you...maybe.

    You're not from Philadelphia.
