    Impossible to style menu made from unordered list

    Hi everybody;

    I'm trying to make a pretty basic horizontal drop down menu in dreamweaver.
    I have Eric Meyer's css reset v2.0.

    The problem i have is when i start styling the <li> tags inside the <ul>, the changes appear in dreamweaver's design window, but don't appear at all inside my browsers (firefox, opera, internet explorer, chrome).

    I've tried of course emptying the internet caches of each browser and removing the css reset, but still no changes appear in the browsers, while they clearly appear in dreamweaver.

    I just can't wrap my head around this thing.

    The more I used dreamweaver the more i started to hate it. The design view is horrible at times.. It will say one thing but thats just how DW reads what DW wrote.. Even towards the end of using dreamweaver id hardly check the design view, id view it in a browser and refresh it when making changes.

    I know that doesnt help you with your problem. Im also not the most experienced but most people will ask to you to copy/paste ur code here for us to see at the very least. At this point we have no idea what your problem could be.

    When i had the problem with this, mine was the bullets.. Couldnt get rid of them! But that was because of my carelessness and didnt use the "list decoration style" tag i was using the Text. It could be something that simple but until we can see what you have it would be hard to help

    First of all, Eric Meyer's CSS reset is an abortion. Using that means you're taking a coat hanger to your website before it's viable. Yeah, that's a gross analogy, but I'm doing it to make a point. Having a reset is one thing...using that reset is the wrong thing. If you don't know why, consider that it screws up the layout of ordered lists by default, and there has never been anything even remotely close to an explanation as to why (probably because most people don't even know that). So don't use it.

    Second, as Vapr_Arts quite rightly pointed out, Dr*amw*av*r design view is a design view...and like all design views, it's "interpretive" and leads to bloated code and / or browser inconsistencies. You're going to have to switch to code view and do things by hand.

    Which leads me to a deeper point...so far, you've done two things that indicate that you're relying on code supplied by other people or things. I'm guessing that it's because you're new, and there's nothing wrong with that. We were all new once. No one started knowing everything. No one knows everything. No one ever will know everything. But that applies both to you and to the people you're taking things from. I showed you an example of how screwed up something is this fairly commonly used, and Vapr_Arts gave you another. You can use other people's code if you want as a starting point, but ultimately you'll largely have to come up with your own if you want to build things the way you want them.

    .
    There's one thing completely illogical to this reset: it sets the font to Georgia for a lot of tags, <li> included.

    So, i went into my css, and UNDER the Meyer css reset, tried to override the Georgia font for the <li> for another;....
    ..it FAILED...

    Even if i go into the CSS reset section itself and add at the very end the line :
    li {
    font-family: "Bank gothic md medium";
    }
    IT STILL won't be able to change the font to bank gothic

    How can that be ?

    Now, that it won't do. It'll do some pretty stupid things, but changing fonts to Georgia isn't one of them.

    Chances are you have a second CSS file (probably created by DW) that is below the reset file in the code that is making that change.

    Well, i've managed to straight some things out, but now that i have the horizontal menu, it's rendered differently in each browser.

    Is there a place i could go to get a (really) free pure css menu that shows the same in the main browser types ?

    Like i said im fairly new to this, and i dont know exactly what a "reset" is.. But a nav bar is extremely simple if u understand css. To be honest it consists of 3 things aside from styling to ur preference. Just create the ul and li and make them anchors to the pages. Then use css to select the li and remove the padding,margin,and list-decoration-style.

    Im still not sure if thats what ur even asking for, but if it is theres many simple tutorials if u dont understand css enough to do this.
