Exclamation Why is my redirect page being maliciously used by someone else?

I have a "You are leaving the site XYZ and being redirected to Press here to proceed" and it will then go to which will redirect to that site.

Looking at my log, I see that someone is using the page to redirect to other random sites.

    GET /redirect.aspx?link= HTTP/1.1" 200 716 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:20.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/20.0"

I know that there are other ways to accomplish a redirect like this and I welcome some ideas but my real question is why are they doing this?

Any idea what they can they gain from doing this?

    Referer spam in all likelihood.

It doesn't have to be a smart thing to do. It just has to "feel" like the "right" thing to do.
