    User Input Marquee

I was wondering if it is possible to create a form for a user to enter some text - a message for example and have it added to a marquee full of messages automatically so a vistor to the website can enter a message for the whole world to see without the website administrator having to enter the text in manually.

    is this possible?

what languages will have to be used? if so could i have links to sites with tutorials of this

what if i was to put the form on a seperate page to the marquee?

    Thanks for your help.

It is possible and I could write a tutorial if you want.

You'll need a host that supports PHP and MySQL though and I don't believe Angelfire supports either...

If you intend to eventually be your own host (not something I'd recommend but each to his own) check out http://www.webdesignforums.net/showt...&threadid=4321 .

PHP and MySQL are hard to learn if you don't already know any programming languages (HTML doesn't really count) or databases, but for simple things like this we can help you out.

not much point bothering with MySQL databases for something this small i would have thought. Just a CSV texfile database would be easier and cheaper.

Security issues though...you'd have to chmod it 777...dbs are also faster than flat files

    But each to his own

no CHMOD the file to 700 then only the script executing on the server and the owner can read it.

and unless we're talking 5 visitors a second, i doubt whether the small amount of time it takes to load the file is much of an issue.
