one element's style for another element not in parent-child relationship

    I want a
element with a certain class to have the style of an
element without being nested. The specifics of the style would depend on the user's browser. I'm doing this because something said that subtitles should not use h2 but should use p styled to look like h2. I can guess h2 rules through trial and error but that depends on my browser and I'd rather simply say something that means "use the user's browser's h2 style". How do I do this?
