    I am trying to do some stuff with list items and CSS that I haven't so far been able to get to work. What I want is something like this:

    First line of a list item (LI):

    bullet - text text - more text more text

    Then I'd like the second and subsequent lines to be indented to a fixed position somewhere near where "more text" begins in the first line (the exact indentation length does not really matter).

    I have so far been unable to do this with CSS. When I try to apply formatting changes, it generally affects the entire list item.

    Any ideas? Possible?

    Mind posting some code? I think I know what the problem is, but I'd like to see an example first before I embarass myself

    I don't really have any code, since I haven't gotten it to work yet. The basic set up is something like:

    <ul class="whatever">
    <li>date - text...</li>
    <li>date - text...</li>
    <li>date - text...</li>
    </ul>

    Attached is a small GIF image of what it currently looks like.

    And here is another small GIF, this time of what I would like it to end up looking like.

    The question is really just how to get subsequent lines after the first to indent to a specific point.

    see if this works for you:

    Code:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Untitled Document</title>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
    <style type="text/css">
    <!--
    .secondline {
    	width: 400px;
    	margin-left: 85px;
    }
    -->
    </style>
    </head>

    <body>
    <ul>
    <li>
    <strong>08/11/2003</strong> -
    <a href="#">Wetland Compensatory Mitigation: Mitigation Bank Registry</a>
    <div class="secondline">Updated Links to <em>Guidelines for
    Wetlands Compensatory Mitigation in Wisconsin</em>
    document.</div>
    </li>
    </ul>
    </body>

    Yea, that will work. I realized I had tried something like that once, but I was holding off to see if you could do it with just an LI class by itself (which in hindsight seems impossible).

    Thanks for the code!
