    How to get server side includes going on IIS7 Windows 7

    I've tried many things and I think I've got everything setup properly...see images

    I'd like a specific directory which contains my site to be able to use SSI, I think I am missing the step which tells IIS that.

    What have I missed? I'm using the date test:

    <!--#echo var="DATE_LOCAL" -->

    Are you serving the files using localhost/directory/page.shtml ?

    I don't even understand the question. Sorry.

    (SSI seems a lot of grief compared with HTML imports!)

    .shtml files need to be served. That means IIS needs to run. You'll need to run something beginning with http:// localhost/ (without the space) in a browser to get it working.

    They may be more grief, but there's a payoff at the end i.e. full browser support.
