    My first post

    I work on computer networks by trade but dabble in other disciplines.

    I have recently purchased an HTML editor called CoffeeCup. I also use a free editor called BlueGriffon.

    I learned most of what I know from www.codecademy.com (and some from YouTube).

    I am not seeking web development as an occupation or extra income I simply want to learn more about it.

    I found HTML rather basic and easy to learn. I believe I understand basic CSS (judging by my success on www.codecademy.com) however, and this is where you guys come in, I can't figure out how to link my HTML file to my CSS file in my HTML editors.

    I have learned all of these things but this one missing piece of the puzzle is keeping me from putting what I have learned to the test.

    Maybe I need to use a server to link them?

    Help me get past this so I can validate what I have learned about HTML/CSS and move on to PHP, then finally Python (which I hope will prepare me for SDN).

    23 views and no reply. Should I seek answers elsewhere?

    I have already seen that information several times ( fyi I will never ask this forum for a how to that I have not attempted to research myself) but I have not been able to implement changes using a CSS document. Obviously I am missing something. Perhaps I should write some simple code and you can analyze it and tell me what I am doing wrong.

    Sorry it took so long.

    I am not sure if you call this configuration or code but at any rate here is a sample.

    I am using CoffeeCup HTML editor (where I sourced this) and I have also been dabbling with BlueGriffon.

    I appreciate the help.

    PRACTICEHTML.html

    <!DOCTYPE html>
    <html lang="en">
    <head>
    <title>Practice</title>
    <link href="style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="test/css">
    </head>
    <body>
    <div class ="test">
    Test
    </div>
    </body>
    </html>

    stylesheet.css

    body {
    .test {color:red;}
    }

    EDIT: This sight seems to have taken out the spacing used for the containers. They are present in my actual code/configs.

    Were you still available to look over my code/configs?

    Starting with what you have shown us you are linking to a nonexistent style page. You link to style.css but have named your page stylesheet.css. Does that help you or do we need to work together to dig deeper?

    I appreciate the reply and I updated my test file however split screen preview still shows my text as black instead of red.

    We may need to dig deeper.

    I actually just have these saved as documents in a single folder. Do I need to do something beyond that?

    What have you named those documents?
