Portrait / Landscape screen issues

Morning,

I spent an hour or so last night trying to get the ipads to show in correctly in portrait mode as opposed to looking like a landscape mode.
I have supplied a few screen shots to help explain this issue.

What i am trying to achieve is the following.

Currently on the various ipads i see the following.

But i would like to have them show like so,

I then also noticed that in landscape mode the main picture was not correctly being show and was cut off.
I did not know whether to alter the size of the where the main image was shown or the issue was the section where the thumbnails were shown.

After making a right mess of things i was only then too glad to use my back up css file and call it a day.

I understand the concept of what the code actualy does but adding the correct code is the hard part.

Hi,
Would the following be correct,
At line 786 in my main css file i had altered the original code

FROM

		@media screen and (max-width: 1280px) {

			#main {
				width: 19em;
			}

To

		@media screen and (max-width: 1280px) {

			#main {
				width: 100%;
			}

Looks ok in Chrome dev tools for Portrait but not sure if by making this alteration i need to alter anything else to compensate etc.
