alt & title tags in HTML5?

As I'm relearning HTML and the new HTML5 one interesting thing I've noticed is that all of the books and references I go through seem to leave out alt or title tags primarily on hyperlinks? Instead I see the use of itemprop/itemscope on these elements. Do most of you use alt/title tags for links?

Nope, personally, I find it useless to add title and alt tags to hyperlinks, I don't even use alt tags on image coz when images don't load they just show this small icon which by now everyone would know what that icon means.

Honestly, my lecture didn't even mention itemprop tags, i guess they are not commonly use in modern days

    They serve different purposes.

Itempprop/itemscope is microdata format documented at schema.org primarily designed for robots, like search engines.

Title tags on links, alt tags on images, are primarily designed for humans.

Title tags: more information on an element where appropriate

Alt tags: information to show on an image if it doesn't load, or if the user is blind and needs a screen reader to provide an alternative description.

I've never heard of the itemprop/itemscope tag. I only use the alt tag in images

Alt and title tags on Images are very important for SEO, it's how google knows what the image is about. For Hyper links its not that important.
