    First off, check your syntax, make sure you did not leave out a semi-colon, (if there are other properties) that the quotes (if it is in text) are correctly placed, and the semicolon (if applicable) is closed.. That is your most likely problem. After that, the only other problem could be the actual link, which you already said was correct.
    Try making an external stylesheet instead, and put into it
    Code:
    body {
    background-image: url(../Desktop/tester/bar.gif);
    }
    along with any other CSS properties. External sheets are wonderful, and are the true power of CSS.
    Whoth steps forth to mock the teal? Whom couldst say a color superior!

    Proclamith me, it cannot be done.

    like teal said, make sure the file is actually in the directory you are stating.

    ../ means one directory up.

    well

    First of all check

    [1] url is correct and image is there accroding to your site path

    [2] add ";"

    here are complete code for background image

    Code:
    .yourtag{
    	background-image : url(filepath);
    	background-repeat : no-repeat;
       	background-position: left top;
    }
    you can also set that it should be repeat it or not. you can also set it align ment.

    BE SURE TO PLACE ";" AT THE END in every line.
