Okay, I've got this idea for a site down however there's a few things I seem to be unable to do in a tableless layout.
The biggest of my questions is... I have a bunch of floating divs, mostly using absolute positioning. Say one gets longer due to text... how do I account for this? I'm assuming relative positioning, but everytime I've used it I've had issues with it.

Alsol I'd like to add a small note at the bottom of every page... how do I do this with a tableless layout? I can't get it to do it if the page scrolls...

I'm assuming both of these quesions are essentially the same quesion and any help is appreicated

I just specify a width and an absolute position, I allow them to expand their height.

Never tried this before, though can you do that by using absolute positioning Opx from bottom? I've never tried.

Would help with a link to the stylesheet Brak, but I'll try me best. You shouldn't need to use absolute positioning to align the divs the way you want them to, most of this can be done using margins and padding.
Also you can just stop the overflow property to stop your boxes expanding.

:-/ tbh that's going to be really hard to convert into anything else, relative positioning may work but remember it will look slightly different between IE and Gecko browsers.

Well.. I have no issues scrapping everything coded there as long as I can make something that displays the same as shown there plus the stuff I was talking about... =/ I can't figure it out and am very close to just using tables

What you need to do is think of the divs as table cells and nest them inside eachother, for example you can use a holder div to hem the site in (like you've done with tables on your portfolio site)and then align the other divs inside this using margins and padding.
