    I'd like to change the color of a table cell to reflect different lists that are active.

    Code:
    response.write "<h1 style='color:red'>"
    ....
    ....
    Table_Select_SQL = "Select iif([IPList].[AdmitDT] is not null,'<h1>*</h1>',' ') as BegColor,Person.PersonID,P...
    ....
    ....
    Rst_Demo.Open Table_Select_SQL,Conn_Demo,1
    ....
    ....
    TableHTML = TableHTML & Rst_Demo.getstring(,, "</td><td>", "</td></tr><TR" & strTemp0 & "><TD>", "no data")
    TableHTML = TableHTML &  "</td></tr></table>"
    ....
    ....
    response.write TableHTML
    the sql is working properly. I get a * where I want, and a blank where I want.

    The getstring is working properly, at least, the table shows up with the appropriate information in the appropriate places.

    But the color of the * doesn't change. What stupid thing am I doing?

    Note that in TableHTML, <td><h1>*</h1></td> is the first column...

    and I do have the appropriate <table border ....> stuff

    I'm confused...do you want to change the background color, border color, or color of the text in a table cell?

    Precisely, I was a bit confused

    Anyway, there are two ways. The HTML way:
    Code:
    <td bgcolor="whatever">
    and the CSS way:
    Code:
    <td style="background-color:whatever">
