I have a 3x2 table, just a simple means of organizing my site, which is a PHP/MySQL message board (in progress, just to teach myself) On one side, there is a navbar (vertical) and beneath it is a small box that lets you know if you are logged in. The center is the primary content, which has a rowspan of 2, and the right is two <div>s, one meant to show the most recent post, or posts, the other for some other fact, I don't even know what yet. My problem is, when the navbar expands, a gap appears between the recent post div and the facts div. I have, in my CSS sheet, "td {vertical-align: top;}". The gap is clearly caused by the expanding navbar. In fact, I think I will actually show you people My Page.

Now, how do I make those side-things go all the way to the top, and expand downwards. I need them to actually "break" the little border line on the side to sections of the table, and move upwards regardless of the other side . . .
This is hard to explain. Just look at the site.

Edit- I noticed that the issue is even worse in IE, with both divs moving all the way to the middle of the middle cell
Whoth steps forth to mock the teal? Whom couldst say a color superior!

don't do rowspan... just have one cell on the left, one in the middle, and one on the right. Then nest other organizational structures within each cell to further subdivide the contents therein.
