    I am teaching myself xhtml, and i built a site which i was going to put on my domain, at first i was using a frame... but then i saw that i could use a table to do it, i then realised that a table would be better. So i created one, The problem is that the left side of my table is halfway down the screen and i just can't work out why, i will post what i have

    <table cellpadding="5" cellspacing="0" width="100%">

    <tr >
    <td width="20%">
    <b> Links <b/></br></br></br>
    <a class="left" target="_top" href="home.htm" >Home </a><br/>
    <a class="left" target="_top" href="uwp.htm" >The Underworld Project </a><br/>
    <a class="left" target="_top" href="wdc.htm" >My Web Design Project </a><br/>
    <a class="left" target="_top" href="wdr.htm" >Web Design Resources </a><br/>
    <a class="left" target="_top" href="films.htm" >My Top 10 Films </a><br/>
    <a class="left" target="_top" href="cpic.htm" >Cool Pictures i have come across </a><br/>
    <a class="left" target="_top" href="me.htm" >A bit About Me </a><br/>
    <a class="left" target="_top" href="mlink.htm" >Misc Links </a><br/>
    </td>
    <td width="10%">
    </td>
    <td width="60%">
    <h3> What we are about? </h3>
    </b>
    <p> For now this is a portal which lead's to all things i am into, it isn't all crap about me, it is things i do, websites i
    visit
    and some websites i have created myself. More sites will be added and some will be removed with time, we shall see how i
    go. </p>

    </b>
    </b>
    </b>
    </b>

    <img src="image2.jpg" width="350" height="300" alt="portal jpg">

    <p> To the left you will see links, please click on them, they are all good.</p>

    <p> By the way this is not an advirtising site, this is a group of thing's i am into. </p>
    </td>
    <td width=10%>
    </td>
    </table>

    I just need to know how to put the links section at the top of the page, level with the other part of my table

    ugh... tables..

    anyway, put this in the td tag, with the links, as an attribute.
    Code:
    valine="top"
    That should fix it.

    Also you need to get rid ot the lone </b> tags and properly close off the <br /> tags.. Notice there should be a space befor the slash.

    No, what glyakk means is to convert your entire site to positioning with te use of DIVs, SPANs etc.. Check out this tutorial that he wrote for mroe information is this is gobbledigook.
