    I have 2 different headers. one that relies entirely on images and one that relies entirely on text for the menu links.

    Which one would you go with keeping in mind the these three factors:
    * Search Engine Optimization
    * Aesthetics
    * increasing/decreasing text size?

    All Text Header
    All Image Header

    I am less concerned about load time of the graphical header. you can visit the current site Here.

    what do you think?

    The all-text header. I just think it's cleaner and sharper overall, and SEO tends to lend itself more to text than it does to graphics, even with ALT tags.

    What's your opinion of text resizing? I am concerned that if a user increases the text by +2, the pages looks horrible...

    But if they resize it by 2 and it doesn't resize because it's antialiased text embedded in a graphic element, the user looks horrible, like (s)he just sucked on a lemon.

    I think you'll be okay that way as long as you don't put too much in the menu. You should have enough whitespace on the top, bottom, and sides of your links to cover that.

    If you really wanna know, download Mozilla Firefox and resize it there. That'll tell you for sure. IE won't since you appear to have a set value for your text size.

    thanks. i am actually testing on firefox now, but i am guessing most of the users will be on IE, which is perfect.

    One question; what do you mean by this statement:
    the user looks horrible, like (s)he just sucked on a lemon

    I just meant that there are a large percentage of users who believe they should resize all text on a page, even that which is embedded in a graphic image. Now, you and I know that resizing text in a JPG or GIF really isn't possible without switching the user's resolution, but Joe Blow isn't going to know that. I've actually seen a client surfing a competitor's site and make a really bad face because all of the text was embedded in graphics and I couldn't explain to him why. He just knew that "text is resizable in Word, why can't these ***holes make it resizable on the web?" Just something to think about.
