    what is the difference between these two meta tags:

    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">

    <META content="text/html; charset=windows-1252" http-equiv=Content-Type>

    which should be used in which different situations?

    Flash Frogger - Frogger remake, animated/coded in Flash (incomplete/discontinued)
    Daase Art Studio - Homepage of David Daase, a Canadian landscape artist - image gallery/showcase.

    ISO-8859-1 is the internationally accepted cross-platform Western Europe 8-bit character set developed in 1987 (in other words, everyone can read the characters no matter what.)

    Windows-1252 is very similar to 8859-1 except that they take positions #128-#159 and use some of them for things like trademark symbols and curly quotes, whereas 8859-1 assigns all of them as non-printing characters. There are a few other differences, I think, but this is the major one that I know about.

    Personally, I use 8859-1 across the board and never had an issue with it. If I want to do a trademark symbol, I just use [minicode]TM[/minicode]. There really aren't a lot of characters that are useful in the 128-159 range with Windows-1252, although some, such as , can come in quite handy if you're Canadian.
