when doing meta descriptions etc... what stops a person from many a huge 2000 word essay? i mean, surely this would be cheap and allow many keyword combinations etc in a search... how do search engines handle pages like this?
Pixel Fuse - Signature webpage, just a spashpage.
Flash Frogger - Frogger remake, animated/coded in Flash (incomplete/discontinued)
Daase Art Studio - Homepage of David Daase, a Canadian landscape artist - image gallery/showcase.
More links if I think of some...

There is no limit I don't think. But the daddy of search engines, google does not use meta tags. It goes by the quality of your site's content. It ignores your meta tags and gives high rankings to relevant textual content, well labelled links and outside references.

Thats why it is much better then other search engines that are just crammed with pages using hundreds of meta tags.
Most designers still use them, but it is not worth going over board on them as far as I am concerned.
