I'll try to explain what I'm doing as best I can.

I have a photo gallery, on this page:
    http://mowderconstruction.com/brunswick.html

The idea is that when a user clicks on a thumbnail, a popup window appears with that thumbnail enlarged, and they can then navigate backwards and forwards from that particular image.

This means that sometimes they won't start from the beginning - I will therefore have to pass a varaible, x, from the parent window into the child window that pops up. I haven't been able to figure this out, and what you can see in my code right now is a horrible mess of the different things I've tried.

Can anyone please tell me how to do this? I suspect perhaps it has something to do with passing it through the URL and parsing the variable out of that? But I forget exactly how... any help is greatly appreciated.

Of COURSE I figured it out right after asking about it. I think it has something to do with the process of breaking down the question into parts... then I figure it out. Sorry to bother y'all. You can, of course, go to that URL now to see how I did it, in case you're looking for the same type of functionality.

You passed a querystring parameter to the child window, which sends a communication to the server-side of the opened window.

Passing a javascript variable is a little different. Really, you would execute a javascript function directly through the window object rather than just passing a variable.
