I've been looking for something like this to use for my website but I can't seem to find anything remotely to it that's independant unlike the extension that comes with Joomla. I pretty much want to do something like this to my site (although I know some of these are done in flash):

    *examples*
    http://pangya.ntreev.net
    http://www.steparu.com
    http://www.mys4league.com

I've remembered one of my friends telling me that the ones from "steparu" & "mys4league" are done in AJAX so I was hoping someone here might know where I might find some sort of script like this. If anyone can help, please let me know.

*trying to place it at the top of my page in the section where it says my site reopened: http://www.animetoshokan.org/forums/index.php?app=ccs

I've wrote a universal animation script a while ago. You can use it to animate any css attributes. You can use it if you want: its here. A color parser is included (not written by me though).

The way I've done sideshows in the past is to actually have two overlapping elements. So, you'll have a container div, and then two <img> tags overlapping inside. (absolute positioned with a relative positioned container). Each of your navigation links has an id like 'imgNavi#' so that you can loop through all the elements. They have an attribute 'title' or 'value' or whatever set to the image location.

In order to change the image being displayed, simply change the image source of one of your image tags. Then fade the current to opacity 0 and the new to opacity one. You can set a timer with setInterval() if you want it more of a slideshow.

    Hope that helps!
