    a little more information might be helpful....

    1. server environment ?
    2. scripting language involved ? ( if any )
    3. how are you currently creating the top level links ???

    I use asp to do the same thing because it has some built in functions to parse folders...

    then repeat the same string inside the "loop" to parse out the sub folders...

    could be that simple ???

    i used php to get topfolders name
    and i used code like this

    PHP Code:
    <select name="libnos" >
    <?php

    // get each entry
    $skins scandir("/dir/dir1/dir3/$libno");
    foreach (
    $libs as $lib) {
    if (
    is_dir(/dir/dir1/dir3/$libno" . $lib)) {
    echo "
    <option>$lib</option>" ;
    }
    }

    ?>
    </select>
