    Confused with JavaScript/jQuery

I took the advice given to me on this site and have gotten back into just learning the code writing basics. I am using and have used w3schools to learn from. I also paid for the code I needed and am trying to mess with it to figure out how it works. I am a little confused. I am learn things in jQuery that don't seem all that relevant. For example parent(). I have learned a lot from here and w3schools. Are there other teaching sites that don't cost arms and legs and is this stuff all relevant to making a fulling functions, high detailed site. Please. Some guidance would be great.

Not a whole lot. About the only one I can think of is CSS-Tricks .

parent() is actually very relevant, if you're doing any two-tiered menus or things like that. It's also useful in a scenario like this (this is just a hypothetical): you have two sibling divs and a child input in each div. You change an input in div1 and you want to update div2 automatically. So you'd fire something like $(this).parent().next().find("input") to change the input in div2.

A lot of what you're going to learn won't come from any one particular site, but from a series of them as you gain and apply knowledge as well.
