    Recommendations for OAuth setup?

    Hi everyone,

I'm trying to play around with the Yelp API, but can't even get past Oauth configuration.

Can anyone recommend an Oauth setup that is easy to use or understand? There seems to be many out there and I have no idea what's good.

    Thank you.

There isn't one that I've seen. OAuth is used in a relatively small number of circumstances and the implementations I've seen depend on the site you're trying to connect to.

The only thing I can suggest to make it "easier" is to use OAuth 2.0 vs. OAuth 1.0.

    Thanks.

Oauth seems to be the favored API tool for a lot of social media APIs.

I actually want to make a programming project using the Yelp API, but I am totally stuck at Oauth. Documentation found on Google is not the most helpful. I think this is pretty much why my programming knowledge has been so slow to come about -- so many barriers lol.

Welcome to development, Ron. Documentation is sparse and confusing for anything that requires thought.

I pretty much had to just back my way into it as best as I could.

Brah, might be for the best that there is sparse documentation cause... job security for programmers. LOL.

Anyway, I ended up figuring it out on my own. Turns out I needed to download an oauth.php, require Oauth.php, and then punch in my credentials.

Now, I just need to learn how to properly parse, output, and style all this crap:

    That'd be JSON. It's set up just like a JavaScript object. If you're manipulating it in PHP, you'll use json_decode();

Then, you access the various items like you would any key/value pair in a PHP object.

    Thanks Ronald.

I've learned a bit about JSON from taking this app building class by Apigee SDK. And yes, when I looked at it, I thought to myself that it looks a lot like an object or associate array in PHP with key-value. Thanks for the heads up.

Anyway, looks like I'll have some hands on experience with JSON and Oauth after I do this project -- awwwwrite.

Damn straight. If you can figure it out...and I've figured out a ton of things on my own...you pretty much hold the upper hand over your employer. What's that? You think I'm taking too long to do that for you? Okay, you go ahead and offshore that task because you think it's cheaper and see how long it takes you. I'll wait. See you in about 8-10 weeks when they botch it!
