    Ok...here is an example of what I want

    Where the X are varying characters.

    This is in a bash script btw...I have got it working with two seds but I want it in one

    Martin thinks Filburt should stop referring to himself in the third person! Once you get the basics of regexps the rest just seems to pop into place.
