I have a <textarea> I've limited it to allow only 2000 characters through the php form mailer. However, I would like to allow the user to check the amount of chars in the textarea before the click send.

the text area's name is comments
    <TEXTAREA NAME="comments" ROWS="8" COLS="30" WRAP="HARD"></TEXTAREA>

I would like to know what kind of javascript would be able to count the chars (edit: and create an alert message showing how many exist). I tried editing the one for this thread creator, but it ain't working  I appreciate the help.

iframe, maybe...? You can turn off the border with CSS, too...
