Hi there I am a new member of Web Design Forums and looking to learn new things and network with new people. I am the owner of The Calgary Web Design Network (Edit: link removed as per forum rules - Alphamare) a professional web design & internet marketing company. I currently work from home (by choice) so have to learn a lot on my own and be a jack of all trades. Business has been going great but I'm still a student of the game and enjoy talking to others with experience to offer. Feel free to send me a message at any time

    Welcome to the forums!

I hope you will find what you are looking for here - we are a great bunch of people who really like helping others, and are also always open to learning more.

You'll find us a very varied group when it comes to experience and expertise, but one thing we all have in common is that we are here to learn and help others learn as well.

I have learned more in a year by helping folks here solve their problems than I would have learned in 10 years on my own...

That said, link dropping to promote your own business is frowned upon in these forums, even when used as an introduction, so I've removed your link from the post above. There is a place to post a link and ask members to check out your site, in the Ratings and Reviews forum.

May I suggest that, as a new member, you should read the rules before you post, just so you know how these forums work.

The "Like" link is at the bottom right of each post, along side the "reply" link. And if you are being helped here, try to help someone else - pass it on!

Okay no problem thanks for the reply I'll review the rules in better detail next chance I get. A few of my responeses until I read that may have contained a URL but will make sure that doesn't happen with any future posts.

No worries. I saw one myself, but I caught it and fixed it.
If I've helped you out in any way, please pay it forward. My wife and I are walking for Autism Speaks. Please donate, and thanks.

If someone helped you out, be sure to "Like" their post and/or help them in kind. The "Like" link is on the bottom right of each post, beside the "Share" link.

Well, if you like to ( really like ) the challenge of learning and trying to keep up with ever-changing technology, then you've picked the right field.

I'm a more trial and error kind of learner, de-construct to see how it functions, then rebuild it In a way I understand and can use. Bought a few books over the years, used then mostly for reference... But if I see something I like... I try and recreate it... That's how I got heavy into CSS.

Had a few clients that had FLASH based sliders on their sites, and really liked them for the look and feel of the site, so instead of using flash I recreated them using CSS and a little JavaScript.

Lots to learn, but I might suggest, if you have a bunch of questions, break them into small chunks and post them in the appropriate sections, you're more likely to get help and or answers that way.

Links that directly address the topic of a question, such as a link to a good tutorial, are allowed. It's just the "self-promotion" links to your own site that are basically looked on as spam. We get a lot of "new Members" who join, post their site in as many forums as they can, trying to use it for SEO. What they don't realize is that we are a "nofollow" forum.

Once you have 25 posts (and real posts, with actual information, not just "I agree" or "good thinking") you can put your link into your signature. That way if a member is interested in your work, they can go check it out.
