An excel file as in saved as an .xls ?

I believe (may be wrong, though) that the file would have to be saved as a .csv rather than in the Microsoft binary format... as that's plain text you should be able to just read it in using fopen() and turn it into an array using the fgetcsv() function.

You can read it through some third-party extensions and assuming you're running on an IIS server... though I'd recommend as seanmiller said to save it as a CSV (Comma Separated Value) and parse it that way.

See http://www.jedox.com/ . Looks like what you need.

For what it's worth, to write Excel files in PHP, you can use the freely available writer: http://www.sitepoint.com/article/pea...t_excel_writer .

    Hope this helps.

There's a PEAR package that interprets not only the spreadsheet itself, but also formating, colors etc.
