I'm finally sick and tired of this poorly coded program after it told me its been uploading 47 of 40 bytes of a file.

Does anyone know of any other program that is a text editor with FTP and file support? Thats the only function of dreamweaver I use.

    Thanks,
    Jordan

I don't really like the built-in FTP either. But then again, it's a built-in FTP.

Go for a stand-alone FTP app. CuteFTP is great. Also is SmartFTP, which is free.

If you have windows 2000 or XP you don't need an ftp programme

You can map a network folder to your ftp location. Then you can just drag and drop to/from the folder like any other folder on your computer. The files then go to/from your computer to the ftp site.

I'm not sure as to how good it is, as I've never used it, but there's Nvu. It doesn't look too shabby.

If we're talking across platforms, I have used no better text editor than Kate. When embedded in Quanta, I think it'll be making a beater for Dreamweaver pronto. And since KDE 4 should bring KDE to Windows with some fortune... Mmmm... Quanta and KDevelop on Windows. My life would be complete.

I think I know where those extra 7 bytes are coming from.

Windows uses two codes for a carriage return/line break/whatever it's called namely 0x0A and 0x0C. Servers if I'm correct use only one of those so while uploading the extra character that isn't required is stripped off hence the missing 7 bytes.

Personally I hate DreamWrecker, always have, always will. I prefer to use a notepad replacement (Edit+), WS_FTP Pro and Photoshop.

I prefer to use Linux... on my machine in normal circumstances Windows runs in a VM using Win4Lin in order to check compatability...

    Wouldn't touch the OS otherwise.

    Sean

ps. I will boot up into Windows very occasionally to just double check in a "real" environment... but it's so slow I try to run away very quickly once I've done what I want
