How to get started? help please

Hello
I want to start a forum and I got phpnuke (forum with intergrated home page thing) The whole thing is in php and I have no clue how to edit things. At the moment I just want to edit things like the header and the background color and some buttons. Is there a way i can visually edit a php page in dreameaver like html files? Please help me. I dont know php so I need to know how just change the images and resize things.

The best way would be to visit PHPnuke's website. There should be documentation how how everthing works, and for you, how to create themes etc.
