I am working on a web site that uses php/mysql

I want to know the best way to automate a site subscription..t
hey are currently using paypal for processing transactions.

here is how the process currently works:

1.) visitors register with web site

2.) registered account can login to an admin control panel

3.) visitor click subscribe now button that take them to paypal and the web page then posts all necessary information for processing the subscription at paypal.

This is the URL it takes them to Ö https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr

4.) visitor subscribes to web site with paypal
(account subscription is still not active at this point)

5.) site admin has to manually login to the and turn on a site subscription

6.) visitor can now post a limited number of entries with a valid subscription

7.) site admin hat to manually login to deactivate a site subscription

I want to somehow be able to update a database field on the web site after someone has subscribed with paypal through there system..then it will expire after a certain time period.

    thanks,

Can you modify the confirmation message/email that paypal shows?

If so you could use the get method and generate a link to your site such as confirm.php?uid=$foo&expires=2 - 2 in terms of minutes, hours, days, weeks etc..

Have you looked into PayPal's IPN system? It generates a POST event to your site when payment events occur: http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr...-intro-outside

yes, i have looked into paypals IPN.. just taking a quick look at paypalís IPN..
it seems like alot of work..

has anyone done a Paypal integration with IPN and how big of a project is this going to be?

filburt1, how does WD5 handle their transactions?

I originally suggested that this web site purchase a digital certificate and process transactions on their own....I looked at two different digital certificate companies and got one price of $300 and another for $700 a year..

Does anyone know where to get a certificate even cheaper than this..?

WDF is powered by vBulletin which uses IPN for the PayPal side of things. It actually seems simple to do; the only problem is there's no way of testing it without actually sending money between two accounts (even if they're your own two accounts).
