    Hi all.

    I've been playing around with
    Code:
    <?
    $os = $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'];

    if(ereg("Windows NT 5.1", $os))
      {
      echo "Your Operating System is Microsoft Windows XP";
      }
    ?>
    And I wondered if it were possible to not only distinguish what Operating System you have (i.e, WinXP or Linux etc) but also what version, like WinXP Home or WinXP Pro etc.

    Can anyone shine a light on this please?

    Thanks

    Doesn't look like it, I'm afraid. While other information is included by most browsers, it doesn't look like the edition of the OS is part of that other info.

    Apparently not.

    My user-agent:
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0
    No mention that I'm running XP Pro.
    IE7 doesn't provide it either:
    Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727)

    There's no reason to pass that through to a website anyway, as there's no difference between them when it comes to web pages.

    I know that. I just thought it'd be more interesting to have the edition of the OS as well as what the OS actually is. Oh well, thanks anyway
