I've been trying over the last few days to grasp the concept of using the session_set_save_handler() function to create use my own session functions to use MySQL for storing Session Data in relation to a user_id. However, all the tutorials I can find do a lot in explaining what "needs" to be done, but doesn't do much in the way of explaining "how" to do it. Most use variables that aren't defined, nevermind explained.

Does anyone know of a detailed tutorial or information hub online regarding this task?

Have you liked at the PHP documentation for [phpfunction]set_save_handler[/phpfunction]? The example they give there is pretty good. What are you having trouble with? I mean, it looks like it's pretty straightforward -- write some functions, then call it with the string names of each function. The example in the docs seems to show what parameters are passed to the functions. I'd just play around with the functioins to see what values you're being passed.
