For the past week, I've been looking for a script and nothing's been what I need. What I'm needing is a gallery script (preferably php) that can do numerous levels of categories/albums, easy to skin or embed in a layout, can upload files via ftp, and the visitor can choose the theme when they visit the gallery. This I can do with an install of an old version of Coppermine, but for some reason some images (.jpg files) won't batch load, and I have thousands, so uploading them 5 at a time would take months

I wanted to try this with Gallery3 or ZenPhoto, but can't find a plugin that would allow visitors to change the theme, so I'm open to any suggestion

Jeez... If you spent a week looking... I suspect you're not going to find anything that meets all your needs. I look for about an hour tops, if I don't already have something... Then I start writing it myself.

All mine is in asp though so no help there.

Your post was a little confusing in as much as you crossed protocols... Http and FTP are 2 complete different and seperate protocols and are not easily intermixed... I've heard that its possible to force and http upload to use FTP, but never had the need or desire to waste that much time trying to.

So is it FTP for file uploads ( that'll handle the batch issue ), and http for interface changes ? Or did I read that wrong. And is this for just you or are multiple people going to need access?

If you're opening it to more than just a couple people, I'd stick with http uploads as they ( user accounts are easier to manage ) in a shared server environment ( I'm assuming ).

Is there a DB insert along with the file upload ? Or just a doc dump ?

I just finished a project for a client that uses something along these lines, but everything is SSL, multiple security models ( windows AD authentication as well as a random security code and DB user account), then ip address restrictions ( server level ), the browser type and version finishes off the security. If any of these are not right, user only gets a standard 404 page not found error ( or at least that's what they see ).

The admin section is only visible from 1 ip subnet ( inside their firewall ) , and they can see all client files.

Users can upload upto 200M total ( up to 20 files at a time using http ),

By default, most servers are restricted to allow less than 8 meg uploads from http, I had to do some serious reg mods to allow more, and then only to that one site. All other sites still have the 8 meg restriction in place.

Maybe that is the issue with your batch uploads... I know that's why most asp based upload scritps normally don't offer more than 4-5 at a time.

Are you running your own server ? Or is it hosted shared or dedicated ?

what I'm wanting is the uploading to be done through the ftp and the gallery to merely be viewed online, so in that aspect, you were right.

I will be the only person uploading.

My domain is hosted on another domain
