    I think it would be easier understand what I need, if I just explained what I need to do and how I think it should be done. Please bear with me.

    I own 50+ domains all of which are wp blogs. They all run the same ad code, with the same ad placements. The problem is when I need to change that ad code, I have to login to a boat load of blogs and update the code manually for each domain. So what I'd like to do is make a few php files with the ad code I want run in them, then call those in the places I want my ads to run.

    The other problem is that I have never written a line of php in my life and haven't the slightest clue what the php files I want to call should look like, or what php commands to use to call those files.. I don't even know if php is how I should go about doing this. i'm open to anything that will allow the same results.
    I just want to be able to change the content of one file to change the ad I am running across my whole blog network.

    More still I would rather not have to modify the header content of every blog, but I will if I must.

    Thank in advance
    jimmy nocode

    Are all the domains associated with the same hosting plan ?

    Heres the problem, for security reasons, you typically can't call include files to execute on a website from another domain.

    If all of your domains are hosted on the same plan, you could put the Adsense code into a mySQL DB, then setup each site to call that DB to display the code.

    Yes it would require you to make changes to each WP install, once, but from them on... Just changed the Adsense code in the DB and all the sites would display the same code.

    yes all the domains are on the same hostmonster account. however, I am very intent on doing this with files some how. in the end i want to sell the ad zones for a flat rate monthly fee. i want to allow my advertisers to be able to ftp those files and make changes to their ad zones as they please.. i guess it would be just as simple to give the advertisers mySQL access, to accomplish the same end.

    thank you for speed reply.

    Describe more about the ads themselves.
    Are they just an ad banner (image) with a link?
    Or are they a graphic image with some text included?
    Will the ads always be the same dimensions (width X height)?

    You use the word "advertisers", as in plural. So you'll be displaying
    more than one ad, from different advertisers, or is it really just one
    advertiser?

    What you'll have to do is create the "ad zones" on each theme template,
    example: header.php, or header_main.php, or header_blog.php ... depending
    on which header the ads appear in. If the zones are in a sidebar, you'll be
    creating the zones in the "sidebar.php" script.

    Your zones may need to have some CSS styling done to them .. such as divs,
    classes,widths, heights, padding, margins, fonts, etc. So now, you're looking
    at also modifying the CSS files for each WP theme.

    Before we get into the discussion about the PHP script(s) needed to display
    the ads, it's important to know more about the ads, and how many, etc.
    Like I mentioned in the first paragraph of this long-winded post.

    FTP
    ...

    Interesting concept... But opens up a whole mess of security issues by allowing clients to be able to upload anything the might be able interact with your site...

    I think creating a "client interface" with MySQL backend would be more secure for you and clients... Then use the php to control who / what / when / where ...

    There are also several "advertisers" portals already done that would accomplish this is the same way, and they have pay pal, etc... Integrated.

    Describe more about the ads themselves.
    the code is currently adsense and adbrite

    Code:
    <script type="text/javascript"><!--
    google_ad_client = "ca-pub-8062336381594818";
    /* 250x250 1 */
    google_ad_slot = "3694833005";
    google_ad_width = 250;
    google_ad_height = 250;
    //-->
    </script>
    <script type="text/javascript"
    src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">
    </script>
    <!-- Begin: adBrite, Generated: 2012-03-04 22:19:57 -->
    <script type="text/javascript">
    var AdBrite_Title_Color = '0000FF';
    var AdBrite_Text_Color = '000000';
    var AdBrite_Background_Color = 'FFFFFF';
    var AdBrite_Border_Color = 'CCCCCC';
    var AdBrite_URL_Color = '008000';
    try{var AdBrite_Iframe=window.top!=window.self?2:1;var AdBrite_Referrer=document.referrer==''?document.lo cation:document.referrer;AdBrite_Referrer=encodeUR IComponent(AdBrite_Referrer);}catch(e){var AdBrite_Iframe='';var AdBrite_Referrer='';}
    </script>
    <span style="white-space:nowrap;"><script type="text/javascript">document.write(String.fromCharCode(60, 83,67,82,73,80,84));document.write(' src="http://ads.adbrite.com/mb/text_group...rite_Referrer+'" type="text/javascript">');document.write(String.fromCharCode( 60,47,83,67,82,73,80,84,62));</script>
    <a target="_top" href="http://www.adbrite.com/mb/commerce/p...115892&afsid=1"><img src="http://files.adbrite.com/mb/images/a...ere-banner.gif" style="background-color:#CCCCCC;border:none;padding:0;margin:0;" alt="Your Ad Here" width="11" height="60" border="0" /></a></span>
    <!-- End: adBrite -->
    but i would like to have it support basic html as well. i think clickbank uses html as well as a few others..

    What you'll have to do is create the "ad zones" on each theme template
    this has already been done for me via plugin "ad injection" the plugin gives you the ability to inject just about any sort of code you want in common ad banner zones, sidebar, header, widgets..

    so instead of running my ad codes, ad injection would have code to call my ad zone files.

    sorry I'm doing my best to paint a clear picture here..

    But opens up a whole mess of security issues by allowing clients to be able to upload anything the might be able interact with your site
    it does, i agree. I'd would have to check and confirm proper ads are being ran, daily.. have a good ToS, and make sure they know failure to complie, forfeits remaining prepaid ad run time, with no refunds. as long as i setup the ftp account so the home directory is the directory where that clients ad files are, i don't see ftp being an issue. but the ability to upload anything to my web host is a little scarey.

    Take one of those ad sections ...
    How much of that is the same every time, and how much will the clients change?

    Maybe you can make an ad template, and the client only submits the part they need to change.
    You stay in control of all the scripting, the client is merely updating some fields in a database of some kind.

    For now lets totally forget that one day down the road i'd like to let my advertisers have access to their ads include file. I would like to focus on loading my ad brite or adsense codes only, I don't fore see the need to use any other code then the two formats I posted above for quite some time.

    Personally, when looking at something that is done everywhere already... I don't try and reinvent the wheel... Why ? Because the people that use it ( advertisers ), are going to have certain expectations...

    I've run ads and used other advertisers sites in the past... The more difficult someone makes it to run an ad, the less likely they are going to use it. I know that me personally, if I wanted to run advertising Oma particular web site... I expect to have to create an account, verify that account, have a login where I enter my company data, can control what ADS I'm running and when, have some sort of "exclusion" criteria... Have a "max daily spend" cap... And can also go in at anytime, and see metrics on what I'm paying for.

    I had one place I signed up to advertise on years ago, they were having problems, started charging me overly outrageous fees "just because", and refused to show me any data related to their supposed "spikes in traffic and visitors"... So when they start charging me extra money saying "our viewership has increased by 300%" ... I'm suppose to take their word for it... Especially since I actually saw no return on the increased traffic cost...

    Just my opinion... I wouldn't advertise anywhere that "I'm not in control of my ads, or can't see where my money is going "....

    I fully agree with you. Advertisers expect certain things that alone, I will not be able to provide. I think I will end up going with a service from buysellads.com I just hate the idea of having to give up a chunk of my earnings to the go between.. I still want to set this up tho. The ability to change one file and change the corresponding ad across my whole network would be awesome
