    Editing an "under construction" layout

    So this is the deal I must like by tomorow wrap this up because my business plan links to it, for the page I will hire a professional designer but until I find what I want etc I need this under contrstuction page to work

    I downloaded the pack from here: https://w3layouts.com/grand-construc...site-template/ in case you would like to fidle with the archives...

    the problem is that nothing works (not even the timer) and I dont know how to set it up.... I have basic HTML knowledge some elementary php and css knowledge and use Kompozer (KompoZer - Easy web authoring) as my editor

    I know how to create a database on my server but I dont know how to link it to the "subscribe" feature of the layout.

    I basically cant do anything

    So please help me and tell me what to do using Kompozer or any other linux tool in order to modify the layout a little (atleast make the subscribe feature work and the timer)

    this is how the site look now:

    pagemok_original.jpg

    and this is how I would like it to be:

    Thank you.

    First step ... Get it to count:

    Open this file with notepad and enter the correct date that it should count down to.

    js/init.js

    It looks like this:

    PHP Code:

    //Hook up the tweet display
    $(document).ready(function() {

     $(
    "#countdown").countdown({

    date"25 december 2015 12:00:00",

    format"on"

    },

       function() {

    // callback function

    });
        $(
    ".tweet").tweet({

    username"flashuser",

    count3,

    loading_text"loading tweets..."

    });
    });

    The date they have is already past ...
    Make it a future date.

    When you get that to work, let me know.

    Are you on a shared webhost, or all local on your own server?

    I'm leaving my computer for a while, so I'll just post this next part ...

    index.html is the file that has the text that appears. Edit that file.

    Not sure about the language switching. That sounds like a lot of work for an "under construction page".

    The subscription part will require server-side scripting, such as PHP.
    To only get their email is less programming, but to have them go to a whole contact page will require a lot of scripting.
    Here's the problem though ...
    The form needs to keep out spammers. You'll get a lot of spammers and no real inquiries. I suggest you lose that part and simply have a link to your FaceBook page. On your FaceBook page you can explain your website.

    In the "index.html" file, you can alter the title, content, and add your own stuff.

    I noticed they spelled "frist" wrong ... they meant to spell: "first"
    Leave that mispelling as-is, because they spelled it wrong in the other scripts too.

    Thanks mlseim the countdown works like a charm

    I have shared server access so its fine I can alter all stuff needed.

    the index file does not have the text unfortunately... it was the first thing I checked ... as for the subscription I dont care I just want it to seem working (incase the guy who will check my business plan bothers enough to enter his mail to check the website :P ) if you could find time and download the layout from the link I provided to see for yourself It would be great i checked it and it doesnt have any spyware or hardware its a few kb of a files

    Or if you dont have time/cant help me could you may be bother to point me to as narrow and specific links with how tos/data I need exactly for the parts I need to do? (subscribe button, logo insertion, browser tab caption <- all this in php I suppose but please take some time to download the file to be sure that its in organised in php)

    Below is the file called "index.html".

    It has all of the content that appears on the "under construction" page, because it IS that page.

    The text:
    Code:
                <div class="content">
                    <h1>Our website is Under Construction</h1>
                    <p>We'll be here soon with a new website. Estimated Time Remaining...</p>
                </div>
    I'm not sure why you think it doesn't have the text.

    Code:
    <!--

            <!---End-wrap---->

    </html>

    I see in your screenshots that you have FileZilla. Why are you using Komposer when you can open and edit files using notepad (or notepad++, which is better yet). FileZilla allows you to move files back and forth between your PC and the website. It makes your website sort of like another drive on your PC.

    What does an "under construction" page have to do with a business plan. They obviously know you don't have a website yet ... isn't that what you are trying to achieve? They already know you are going to hire a website developer. All they need to know is that you have a webhost account and domain name? Even the webhost will plop-up a page for you if you ask them.

    Yea thats because I am stupid and misstook the index.php for the index.html file :P

    Now I changed the text to suit my needs changes also the tab label what I am not sure how to mess arround with is the "apps" folder were I think the contact.php file is the file I need to edit in order to make that subscribe button work :P

    here is the code of the file:

    <?php
    /*
    * A Design by W3layouts
    Author: W3layouts
    Author URL: http://w3layouts.com
    License: Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported
    License URL: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/
    *
    */
    $userName=$_REQUEST['userName'];
    $userEmail=$_REQUEST['userEmail'];
    $userPhone=$_REQUEST['userPhone'];
    $userMsg=$_REQUEST['userMsg'];
    $subject = "Message from ".$userName;
    $message = '<html><head><title>'.$subject.'</title></head><body><table><tr><td>Email id : </td><td> '.$userEmail.'</td></tr>
    <tr><td>Phone No : </td><td> '.$userPhone.'</td></tr><tr><td>Name : </td><td> '.$userName.'</td></tr><tr><td>Says : </td><td> '.$userMsg.'</td>
    </tr></table></body></html>';
    //$message = "Email id : ".$userEmail. "\r\nPhone No : ".$userPhone."\r\nName : ".$userName."\r\nSays : ".$userMsg;
    $to=$email_id;
    $headers = "From: " . strip_tags($userEmail) . "\r\n";
    $headers .= "Reply-To: ". strip_tags($userEmail) . "\r\n";
    //$headers .= "CC: susan@example.com\r\n";
    $headers .= "MIME-Version: 1.0\r\n";
    $headers .= "Content-Type: text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1\r\n";
    if(!mail($to, $subject, $message, $headers)){
    $mail_status='no';
    header("Location: contact.html");
    exit();
    }else{
    $mail_status='yes';
    header("Location: contact.html");
    exit();

    } ?>

    Because you don't expect anyone to get to your under construction page (other than a select few people), that contact script would be fine. It has no validation or spam protection, but it should work anyhow.

    The HTML (inside index.html) ... this section:
    Code:
                       <form>
                            <input type="text" class="textbox" value="Email:" onfocus="this.value = '';" onblur="if (this.value == '') {this.value = 'Email';}">
                            <input type="submit" value="Submit" />
                        </form>
    <form action="apps/contact.php" method="post">

    ... or whatever the path and script name is called.

    and then all text boxes need names that match the script,
    example name="userName"

    and yes, they are case sensitive.

    Username: <input type="text" name="userName">

    etc.

    This line tells it where to go after the script ends:
    header("Location: contact.html");

    You probably will have a different page, other than contact.html

    ... hope that helps you get started.
