I've not dabbled in ASP if I'm honest but PHP definitely is the back-bone to most website. Get to grips with Native PHP and then venture out into Frameworks.

I think everybody is sort of saying what im thinking too. When i started i always wanted to know what are the 5 or 6 languages i need to learn to make it big as a web developer. There is no such thing. I have found that understanding the concept behind a language is so means so much more than memorising a syntax , moreover knowing that some languages excel at doing certain things , they all have their pros and cons. There is no better language , just one that is better suited for what you are doing and where you are trying to do it.

Being a beginner, you will feel easy in PHP better than ASP. PHP is also simple to learn and you can determine many things in short time and even your confidence will build soon in PHP. So, I suggest PHP to you to learn at first.
