Most books are out-dated. By the time they get published, PHP revisions have already changed.

This is important because of things like MySQL. The books will describe MySQL, when in fact they should be describing PDO, or MySQLi (i=improved)

There are many other things like that which changed between PHP5, PHP6 and PHP7.

So, you should save some time and money by learning PHP online. Again, online PHP tutorials are also out-dated in many cases, but there are NEW tutorials and information on the latest PHP changes. You just have to do some digging.

The best way to learn is by doing it. Either install WAMP w/PHP on your computer (offline), making it a web server, or subscribe to a cheap shared webhost and do your scripting online. Determine a simple project to do, something you want to program, and go with it.

    Google is your friend.
