    Hello,
I will make a top 50 list about my subject and planning to put that list on my site home page. All of the 50 items will have links to the related other websites. Is having too many links like this on my home page to other websites a negative as far as SEO? If so I will make a separate page for my list but I really prefer to have it on my home page because I believe it is a good list.

I would separate them if your website is on new or unsettled ground. If your website is established, you should be ok, but 50 links all at once might raise flags and get you delisted.

Having 50 outbound links on index page will negatively effect your website as far as SEO is concern, If you want to keep these links desperately then use nofollow tag.

    My understanding of link juice:
If your site has 10 pages and you have ONLY internal links then the link juice that your home page has to give is given to each internal page 1/10th to page 1, 1/10th to page 2 etc.
If your site has 10 pages and you have 50 external links, then the link juice that your home page has to give is given to each internal page 1/60th to page 1, 1/60th to page 2 etc.
Therefore I believe that you are leaking the link juice from your other pages by having so many links onthe home page.
I have also read a discussion in another forum whereby Matt Cutts has apparently said that nofollow links evaporate link juice - Google has apparently (so the discussion went) changed its algorithm.

My friend is SEO and he said that had experience in a lots of different threads and also he said that to many links to the index page is very good but not if they came from the same time, during couple days or weeks.

I think that it depends on the site's idea. For the directory site many links on the main page can be a common practice.
Also I think that if you have a lot of content on the page there could be a lot f links withing the content without any penalty.
