    Hi people

I have installed the All in One Seo Pack as a plugin for my blog.

Ive been reading about 301 redirects to improve SEO (please see: http://css-tricks.com/snippets/htaccess/www-no-www/)

If I use one of these code snippets in my .htaccess file, can I/should I still activate the 'Canonical URL' feature within the All-In-One-SEO Pack? Or will this cause problems.. I think the way it does it is to add a rel=canonical tag to the head of each page..

    Please help!

    Emma

    Hi Emma

I also use All In One Seo Pack plugin and I have just checked that I have the 'canonical URL' option selected.

    I also use the
    Code:
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^your-site.com [NC]
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.your-site.com/$1 [L,R=301]
    in my .htaccess file.

It all works just fine on all my blogs

I am guessing that it might be a server setting. So may be worth checking with your hosting.

Thanks, I'll ask them Think it was you who said I should set my preferred URL on webmaster tools - I've just tried this (Ive already verified the site using html file upload method) and it gives the message in this attachment, with no option to verify ownership over both urls.

Have looked thru the docs, and nothing there really.. do you know how I do this?

Ah yes I remember this they changed it a while back.

You have to create separate entries for the www and non-www urls verify them both then select your preference (use www).

Once this is done you can delete the non-www entry.

oh - can i ask another question?

a few sites have been on webmaster tools for a good couple of months. they have no data in the dashboard, but its been recently updated and now both versions www. and non-www have been added, preferred url set, sitemap added and robots.txt added - do you have any idea why its not picking up any data? Sorry for asking another one! just seems you know a bit about webmaster tools

    Emma x
