EDIT: This experiment was abandoned over a year ago.... please refrain from adding new posts to this thread.

I'm testing a theory that an exact-match domain name can get you to #1 with little SEO effort.

This is a brand new site with little content. Let's see how long it takes Google to push it to the first page!

Once it has content, I expect it to get to #1 within a month!

Ok, Google - so here's my domain. Let's see what you do with it!!! :-D

I will be interested to see the outcome. I am predicting the fourth spot in one month.

Top 3 are tough ones. I predict the same, and #1 within 6 months. :-D

I think #1 in 6 months would be tough to get, but we shall see.

I created a site nurseryburystedmunds.co.uk and then optimised it for these keywords - it got to no 2 within 4 months with only a few scrappy backlinks (social bookmarking, forum signarures, one or two directories and links from a couple of non-relevant squidoo pages) - but the search term is probably not a competitive as you're targetting.

What I find really interesting is that google continually states that domain names are not as big of a part of SEO as they used to be and that it is better to have one authoritative site than to have a bunch of different sites with your keywords in the domain. Although they have said this, they don't really seem to be standing by it.

    What are your thoughts?

Miami restaurant is really competitive. But a domain name has a minimal impact on the ranking unless you have a .gov or .fm domain name. If you were looking to rank you would need some relative back links and potentially some premium directories such as yahoo, DMOZ or business.com. Also you may have to target a variation of keywords and mix it in with miami restraunts because although that may have a large search volume it may not have a high conversion rate. But I guess once your site is up then you can test for that.

Entering at page 4 for a highly competitive keyword is really impressive...
With some SEO work, moving up a few pages shouldnt be too hard.
