If you feel that someone's post helped you fix your problem, answered your question, or just made you feel better, feel free to "Like" their post. The "Like" link is at the bottom right of each post, along side the "reply" link. And if you are being helped here, try to help someone else - pass it on!
What Wired said. People got the mistaken impression that this was a "dofollow" forum (which is untrue even if the links weren't nofollowed) so they used it to drop links to all sorts of garbage at every opportunity.

I realize that it stops spammers from coming here, but it also must hurt the overall traffic of the site. I'm sure this forum would have more quality posters if this wasn't nofollow. Spammers can be taken care of by the mods.

Hmm, AK has a point. But I can also see why you wanted to get rid of annoying spammers.
I'm not convinced of that, AK. Forum posters who have something legitimate to contribute may contribute regardless of an attribute associated with a link. And legitimate quality posters are becoming fewer and farther between anyway.
Could it help? Maybe. But for the amount of quality posters we'd get, I'm not sure it's worth it. I'm a mod on another forum where the nofollow attribute is removed, and for every quality post we get that comes from someone that isn't a mod, we remove at least 50 spam posts. I'm not even exaggerating that claim, either. It's everything from offshore web developer and SEO wannabes to credit card hackers selling "fresh CVV dumps" or whatever it's called to World of Warcraft gold retailers to Viagra to every other shady industry known to man.
I hear where you're coming from, dude...don't get me wrong. But I'd have to respectfully disagree.

But if they post it on another forum that is not nofollow, they more or less get the same they would get here with the added bonus of a link.Originally Posted by TheGAME1264, post: 201888
Not having a spammers is great, but it kind of sucks having a small number of responses to a thread. This might just be one of things where theres no perfect solution.

It seems to me that some of the folks who would like this to stop being a nofollow forum are more than willing to volunteer the mods' time to police the increased incidence of spamming. However, I do not see a matching willingness on their part to apply to become mods and take on some of the work themselves.
I know I spend a lot of time on here, and it is for two reasons - I learn something almost every day here, and I feel I should give something back for what I get here. Being a mod is both a pleasure and a responsibility.
The links in my signature are there in case anyone wants to find out more about me - I've checked out the sites of many members that way myself as well. If we were not allowed links I'd still be here - I wonder how many of the "let the mods deal with it " folks can say the same?
